Gardening with Sue

We are so lucky to have Sue Coleman to help develop our knowledge around gardening.  Today we were lucky enough to plant some corn and popping corn.

The Coconut Opening Challenge

As we have been studying Fiji for topic this week the children were provided with a traditional Fiji challenge...opening a coconut.  The students were asked to work collaboratively to come with an idea to open the coconut.  The one provision was that they were not allowed to use a knife.   We had some fantastic solutions using a hammer, cracking it on the concrete and using a drill.  We timed each group and Coreys group won but using the crack on the concrete technique.

Diwali

This week we have been learning about Diwali and wanted to celebrate this awesome festival of light with some traditional food.  The students came up with the meal plan which included roti, rice and butter chicken.  Everyone took part in the preparation of the food and I was so proud of all the children for giving it a try.

Heart Foundation

Our senior school had Sophie from the Heart Foundation come in and talk with us about what food we should be eating to help keep ourselves and especially our heart healthy.  It was a fantastic session which finished with the two classes having a visit to our local store to put our new skills to the test.  We would like to say a massive thank you to Sophie from the Heart Foundation for coming into our school and to Bryan at On the Spot for opening his doors so we could have some first hand experience at using our new skills.

Kids Lit

Today we were so privileged enough to take 3 teams to the West Coast round of the Kids Lit Quiz.  I need to acknowledge all the hard work the children put in when preparing for this competition.  It was awesome to see Xander, Tahlia, Sophie and Solly win a round and receive $5 per child.

To all the teams who competed you are superstars in my eyes.
