Playground Research

As a part of our topic this term (Giving Back) we have been looking at how we can make improvements to our school playground that will benefit the whole community.  Some ideas we have come up with has been a bike track, skate park or new playground equipment.  As a part of the the inquiry process we have investigated different play equipment with Greymouth and did PMI's around these.

What we have decided is we would like a bike track in the end paddock, some skating ramps and rails and to modernise our playground by adding some swings, seesaws or climbing frames.

Halloween Disco

Thank you so much to those who came along and supported the Room 5 Halloween Disco.  It was a fabulously, spooky night and we managed to raise over $400 for our camp to Hanmer Springs next year.

Cameron's Birthday!

We were so lucky today as Cameron's Mum, Heather brought in an amazing cake for us to share to celebrate with Cameron.  Thank you Heather is was fantastic!

Book Character Day 2019

This week it has been book week and we have had a number of different activities going on around the school.  We have had shared stories at lunchtime, the book fair, match the book to the teacher and of course book character day!

Mrs Bailey's Birthday

Every teacher has their 'thing' they are known for and my is the birthday party I throw for my class each year.  This year the them was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which linked in with our Roald Dahl study.  It was a fabulous day with lots of games and treats for every.  A special thank you much go out to Julie our TA who surprise me with a fabulous cake.  Thank you Room 5 for making my day so special.

St Johns First Aid Sessions

Awahono School was lucky enough last week to have St Johns visit to teach us some basic first aid skills.  Some of the things we learnt about was how to deal with burns, sprains and strains and an unconscious patient.

It was a wonderful, practical experience that the children loved being involved with.

Our Police Dog Visit

We were lucky enough to have our local police dog visit us at school.  During this visit we were able to ask questions about how a police dog become a police dog, what they do during the day and how they track people.  One of the highlights from the visit was when we got to see the police dog in action as he attacked a pretend suspect.  Thank you Miss Hahn for organising this for our school.
