Our Mold Investigation

Today we took the final part of our germ investigation to the next level!  We used both digital and old school microscopes to look at the different types of mold (and yes we took all the proper health precautions).  The children loved every minute of this process and between being grossed out and intrigued they were able to form 2 questions that they are going away to research.

Why are there different types of mold and what are those types of mold?

How can we tell what molds are good and what molds are bad?

Check out their personal blogs over the next week to find out what they found out from their research.

Poppy Planting with Sue

Today we were lucky enough to have Sue Coleman come in and teach us how to plant poppy seeds.  We are hopping these will geminate and sprout before ANZAC day on the 25th of April.

Another Germ Update

Tomorrow it will be one week since we started our bread and germ experiment.  We have notices some major increases with the mold growth.  The outside rubbish bin definitely has the most with the lilypad and front gate close behind.  We are also starting to see small dots of mold on the library book, Mrs B's phone, the class rubbish bin and the pencil.  All of these things have grown green mold.  The hand piece of bread is growing white mold.  Tomorrow we will investigate the different types of mold.

An Update On Our Germ Experiement

We thought we would give you an update on our germ experiment that we started on Friday.  We made a prediction that the toilet seat would be the first to grow mold but we were wrong!!!!

Flu Free Friday!

Today Room 5 looked at what we can do to avoid getting sick this winter.  We looked at how easily germs spread and what we can do to stop the spread of such illnesses.  We then have started a science experiment to see what places around the school have the most germ.  Most of the class have predicted the toilet seat.  Where do you think will have the most germs?

Room 5 Camp to Hanmer Springs!

This year we were lucky enough to start our year with a camp to Hanmer Springs.  We stayed at the Forest Camp Holiday Park which was a fantastic facility with all wee needed to be comfortable.

Activity Hanmer were incredible at running all the activities which were archery, bush skills, mountain biking, rock and tree climbing and low ropes.

Each night we had fun at the hot pools and our parents were on the waterslide more than the kids.
