Today the year 4 - 8 students went to the Kumara Race course to compete in the Midland Line Cross Country. It was incredible to see everyone give this a go and 99% finished with a smile on their face. A congratulations to those who got in the top 5 in their age groups as they will be going through to the West Coast Cross Country in early June.
Welcome to our blog. We are a class of Year 5 and 6 students at Awahono School in the Grey Valley, Greymouth, NZ. Our teacher is Mrs Bailey.

Discovering Our History
This term our topic is around 'Discovering Our History'. This topic will lead the students to look at Ahaura and the local history. We exposed the students in Rooms 5 and 6 to a starter activity that was based at History Park in Ahaura, which had our students making connections with their history by seeing their family names on the photo boards.
We can't wait to see where this topic takes our children....watch this space!
2021 Year 5/6 Chess Tournament
This year we had 2 children competing in the West Coast Regional Chess Tournament held at St Patricks School. Odin Wardle and Adarsh Bhan represented Awahono with pride and had a good day out along the way.
Out of 7 rounds they both only lost 1 game each which was a massive achievement. Well done to these 2 boys for giving this opportunity 100%!

Odin's Report on Eels
Odin has written a great report on Eels. He choose this topic because he has a pet (but wild) eel that lives under the bridge by his house. He often goes down to the creek and feeds the eel. He likes to sit and just watch his pet eel. He thought by writing this he could teach others about how cools these animals are.
