Grey High School Science Club Comes to Awahono!

Today the students in Rm 5 were given a wonderful opportunity as the Greymouth High School Science Club came out to Awahono School to share some kitchen science with us.  There were 3 experiments that we got try one was making sherbert, one was looking at what fruit has the most acid and one was looking whether liquids were acidic, base or neutral.

This was such a cool experience for everyone and we intend to develop our learning around this even more.

Rip Rugby Tournament

We are lucky enough have the opportunity to enter a year 5/6 Rip Rugby tournament that is held in Greymouth each Friday throughout June.  The children who have entered are Adarsh, Tom N, Logan, Deacon, Taylor-Rose, Sophie, Cohen and AJ.  They had their first 2 games on Friday and had so much fun.  I would like to say a massive thank you to Julie the TA who is supporting this team and to all the parent helpers who are helping to transport the children into Greymouth.

Super Weirdos

Room 5 were given a challenge today to create a 'Super Werido'.  This relates to the share story we are reading called 'Super Weridos and the Battle of the Bash' written by Mr Mac.

Without meeting as a group each person had a part of the body to design for example one person created the head and neck, the next person created the main body part from the shoulders to the hips and the last person created the legs and feet.  The next step was to come together and put all the body parts together to create our 'Super Werido'.

To bring writing into this challenge we had to write a character description collaboratively.  Here is an example from Corey, Chiedza and Frank.
