LEGO Challenge 2019

A group of 4 children were lucky enough on Friday 24 May to go into Grey High School to attend and participate in the LEGO challenge.  This was a really well organised day that pushed the children to be creative and explain why they made the design choices they did.  A big thank you needs to go to Lisa North for organising this wonderful day out.

ANZAC poem

Here's Bella's ANZAC poem, see it on her blog here.

I have been waiting for a long time for someone to shoot my hat on the other side,

so when they shoot my hat we can shoot them with our guns,

my shoes are getting muddy,

we need to fight,

we need to rest and we all hope we survive and came back to our family safely.

When we die we lie in the ground and above us there are a field of poppies,

remember us, remember us at flanders fields, if we don`t get rest we get weak and some might die,

Remember us, remember us, remember us, remember us.

Learning About Our Brain

Today we were lucky enough to have Anna from Epilepsy NZ come and speak to the whole school about how our brain works.  It was very informative, interactive and we all walked away feeling so blown away by the power our brain has.

Lets Build a Bridge to Get Over It.

We have started a new novel study in Room 5 on the book The Mines Afire.  This book is based on the Brunner Mine site.  So far in the book we have learnt about the bridge across the Grey river and how different it was back in the late 1800's.  We also have been looking at all the different famous bridges around the world.  The children were given the opportunity to design and build their own bridge with just once criteria........it must be able to hold a sphereo.  This was a wonderful activity that allowed the children to experiment, build and show some of the key competencies, while having a fantastic Funday Friday!
