Awahono's Visitors

Earlier this week Miro and Solly brought two young hedgehogs to the school for everyone to see.  They had found them on the road the night before when they were out in the car. One of the hedgehogs had rolled itself into a ball and was rolling along the road to try to get itself out of danger quickly. When the two hedgehogs were in Room 5 they were both asleep, then one of them woke up and we watched as it ate some cat food.

We all gather round to look at the hedgehogs.
The two hedgehogs are sleeping.
One hedgehog is eating some cat food.

  1. Hello room 5. My name is Amaya and I am a student of Te Waka Ako in Waikowhai Primary School. I really like the way you have explained where you found the hedgehog. It reminded me of when I went to my friend's house and they had a hole and in the hole there was a big sleeping hedgehog. Have you thought about where you will put the hedgehog now that you have looked at it and you have shown it to the class? If you would like to see my learning blog here's the address http://wpsamayap.blogspot.co.nz/.

    1. Hi Brooklyn, I am Ryan from Awahono School, Miro and Solly are taking good care of the hedgehog. I found a hedgehog once with its babies and my cat fought with it and the hedgehog hissed at my cat. Would you like to keep a hedgehog as a pet? What is hedgehog food? From Ryan

  3. Hi there, my name is Clara and I am a student in Te Waka Ako at Waikowhai Primary School. I really like how you took care of the hedgehogs and put some info about what you did with them. It made me think of when I was in Wellington and I spotted a hedgehog that drowned in a drain. Have you thought about how long you are going to keep the hedgehogs? If you would like to see my learning, my class blog is http://wpsriceman.blogspot.co.nz.

  5. HI my name is Jia. I am a student at Waikowhai Primary School. I really like how you saved those hedgehogs from the road. It reminded me of when I saved a bird. The bird could not fly and it was falling off a tree. Have you thought about where the hedgehog is going to stay while he is there or when you are going to let it go back to the wild life with his friends? If you want to see my learning, on my class blog, go to http://wpsriceman.blogspot.co.nz.

  9. Hi Jia, finding that bird is very like finding these hedgehogs. We are going to let them go when they are finding food for themselves, and are all grown up. Did the bird that you saved live or die?

  10. Hi Latoya I'm Miro, One of the people who brought in the hedgehogs. Thank you for the comment, but I think that you don't know that many things about hedgehogs. First of all, we found them at night. Second of all, many hedgehogs will die in daylight because of fly strike, but many hedgehogs just come out to get extra food if they didn't get enough at night time.
